KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
A Dog’s a Dog: The Chiefs sure play like dogs as dogs. ON the road as an underdog, the Chiefs were 5-11-1 ATS and 5-12 SU. At home they were 3-2 ATS and SU, but as this article shows, the Chiefs are a big time home team. Over the last two seasons, the Chiefs are a whopping 2-7-1 ATS as a road dog, and 2-9 SU. In 11 of the 16 road games the Chiefs have had, they’ve been the dog. They were 1-1 ATS and SU as a home dog last season. That means, as an underdog, the Chiefs are only 3-10 ATS over the last two seasons.
Over or Under: Over the last 4 seasons the Chiefs are 35-30-1 O/U. Kansas City was 8-7-1 O/U last season, but it definitely was a tale of two halves. To start the year, Kansas City out-produced the total in 6 straight games after the opener in Cincinnati. After that, the Chiefs were 2-6-1 O/U, getting the books back to even on the year. In 2005, the Chiefs finished under the total in 10 of their 16 games, going U, U, U, then O, O, O, then U, U, U and finished the year with 3 straight under performances. The Chiefs are a streaky O/U team, but that can be profitable if you stay ahead of the oddsmakers.
Against the Spread: Against the spread, the Jaguars are 32-31-3 over the last 4 years. Last season, the Chiefs were 7-9 ATS, covering the spread in 3 straight games only once, spending much of the year up and down. ATS, the Chiefs are 21-10-1 at home over that 4 year span. They are 11-19-2 ATS on the road. Last season the Chiefs collected 5 of their 7 ATS wins at home. They were 2-7 on the road. 2005 was even better for the home Chiefs, as they were 7-1 ATS in KC. Once again the Chiefs were atrocious on the road, going 2-5-1 ATS in ’05.
Straight Up: The Chiefs are 39-27 SU over the last 4 seasons. The Chiefs were 9-7 last year, making a surprise appearance in the playoffs. Larry Johnson is back, but Trent Green and yet another All-Pro lineman are no longer with the team. KC was 10-6 SU in 2005, but didn’t make the playoffs. KC has been under .500 just once in the last 5 years, a 7-9 mark in 2004. KC is 25-7 at home over the last 4 seasons, 6-2 in ’06, 7-1 in ’05, 4-4 in ’04, and 8-0 in ’03. The last time they finished under .500 at home was 2001; they were 3-5. The road has been the Chiefs downfall, as they’ve lost 19 out of 33 games away from Kansas City.
Home Sweet Home: Since their 13 win regular season in 2003, the Chiefs have dominated their home field. ATS, the Chiefs have struck gold, going 15-8-1 over the last 3 seasons. There were 6-2 ATS in 2003. That’s 21-10, also known as, one hell of a spread buster. The Chiefs were 25-7 SU during that time. Taking the Chiefs at home, ATS and SU has been very profitable.
