Betting Strategies: NFL Team History Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Over and Out: Last season, the Steelers over was better than it had been in any of the last 4 seasons, and it might only be getting better for over wagers in 2007. Pittsburgh is no longer part of the grind it out offense they’ve been in the past, but new coach Mike Tomlin and his crew want to spread things out to find more open players and get the ball to playmakers in space. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a tale of two halves O/U next season in Pittsburgh, as the books will take some time to safely predict the Steelers’ offense.

Over or Under: Playing at home over the last 3 seasons, the Steelers are 19-7-2 O/U. On the road, the Steelers are more likely to finish under the total, going 10-17 O/U over the last 3 years. Last year the Steelers were 9-6-1 O/U, finishing above the total 5 times in their 8 wins. The Steelers are 8-14 O/U as an underdog over the past 4 seasons. The Steelers were 29-18-2 O/U as a home favorite from 2003-2006.

Against the Spread: Over the last 4 years, the Steelers are 40-31-1 ATS. Last season, the Steel Show stumbled early but managed to finish 7-8-1 ATS. Starting 2-6 ATS, the Steelers finished strong down the stretch covering the spread in 4 of their last 5 games. During their Super Bowl run in 2005, the Steelers were 13-7 ATS, including a perfect 4-0 in the playoffs. In 2004, the Steelers were dominant with an 11-5 ATS record during the regular season. During the last 3 years, the Steelers are 15-13 ATS in Pittsburgh. On the road, over that time, they are 16-10-1 ATS.

Straight Up: Over the last 3 seasons, Pittsburgh is 20-8 SU at home.  During that span, they are 19-8 on the road. That’s consistency. Since the 2000 season began, the Steelers have finished with less than 8 wins only once. The Steelers were 8-8 SU last season. As a favorite, the Steelers are 46-28-1 over the last 5 seasons. But even more impressively, the Steelers are 11-11 as an underdog since the beginning of the 2003 season.

Steel Division?: As first glance, the Steelers have had quite the strangle hold on the AFC North over the past 3 seasons. As a favorite, the Steelers are 11-4 and 9-5-1 ATS, busting the over in 10 of the 15 contests. Over the last 3 years, the Steelers are 13-6 overall in the AFC North, and 11-7-1 ATS. However, they are 0-3 on both accounts in Baltimore, and only 1-5 ATS against the Ravens over the last 3 years. The Steelers are 6-0 SU against the Browns over the last 3 seasons, and 5-0-1 ATS. Against the Bengals the Steelers are 4-2 ATS and SU in that time span. The Steelers have a nice divisional record, but the Ravens have owned the Steelers.
