NBA Power Rankings Week 3
(Numbers in brackets notes last weeks rank and record.)
1. (1) Boston Celtics (11-1)
People in Beantown are truly blessed, as they have the current baseball champs, their pro football team is undefeated, and now they have the Celtics playing out of their minds. Going to be interesting to see how they fare against the Eastern champion Cavs (who they play on).
2. (2) Phoenix Suns (11-3)
Doesn't matter if they Suns are at home or road (where they are 6-2 so far), Steve Nash has this team poised to finally make it to the NBA Finals.
3. (3) San Antonio Spurs (12-3)
Reason I have Phoenix ahead of the champs is that they have played more games on the road. Will be interesting to see these 2 teams compete for that oh so important #1 seed in the West.
4. (4) Orlando Magic (13-3)
Gotta admit, I didn't think this team would be this good, this quick. I was a little skeptical of the Rashard Lewis signing. Jokes on me.
5. (8) Utah Jazz (10-5)
As long as Deron Williams stays healthy, this team will present problems for many teams throughout the season. If AK-47 (Andrei Kirilenko) can stop being a baby, and grow up, then they really will be a force this year.
6. (6) Denver Nuggets (9-5)
Decent record so far for the Nugs, but I am still not sold on this team until they play more defense. Wish I could see Camby, K-Mart, and Nene on the court for more than 10 games a season.
7. (5) Dallas Mavericks (9-5)
While the football team keeps rolling in Big D, the hoops squad is struggling (having lost three straight now). Time for Dirk to take more shots per game, and stop being so nice to his less talented teammates.
8. (7) New Orleans (10-6)
Pity this team is not in the East, because its going to be tough going for the Young Bees to make much of a Buzz out West.
9. (9) Detroit Pistons (8-5)
Once Richard Hamilton recovers from the flu, expect this team to go on a nice winning streak. They are heads and tails above everyone else in the Central.
10. (16) Milwaukee Bucks (7-4)
Winners of five straight, the Bucks now find themselves atop the Central Division. Expect this to last about 3 days.
11. (10) LA Lakers (7-6)
All the Kobe trade talked seemed to die down when the Lakers were playing good ball. Now losers of three in a row, will we start hearing rumors surface again?
12. (15) Cleveland Cavs (8-6)
Lebron and Co. have been hoopin' It up quite well recently (winning 3 in a row). Two games against the Celtics this week. Question is who will step it up besides Lebron?
13. (11) Houston Rockets (8-7)
T-Mac is back, so expect Houston to play well in the upcoming weeks. Too bad for them they play in the highly competitive Southwest Division.
14. (12) Toronto Raptors (7-7)
As with any young team, expect a roller coaster of a season, when it comes to winning/losing streaks. Team has to play better at home (3-4 on the year).
15. (17) New Jersey Nets (7-7)
With Vince, Kidd, and Jefferson all on the floor now, this is a team you may want to consider betting on. They have not only won their last three games, they have covered against the spread also.
16. (25) Golden St Warriors (6-7))
After their horrible start, the Warriors have now won three straight. Still don't like the way they play, or
DON'T play defense.
17. (19) Indiana Pacers (6-8)
Here's another team that doesn't play much defense. Doesn't make sense, as they are fairly young team, and should have the legs to play D. Expect upcoming losing streak as they have played 9 home games compared to only 5 road tilts.
18. (22) Washington Wizards (7-7)
Cant believe I have this team this high on the list. Just goes to show you how many bad teams there are this year in the NBA. Oh yeah, Gilbert Arenas is out 2 to 3 months.
19. (13) Charlotte Bobcats (6-7)
Team in a nosedive, losers of 3 in a row. Just like the situation with Indy, expect this team to go on losing streak (having played 9 games at home, and only 4 on road).
20. (14) LA Clippers (6-7)
Team #3 in the upcoming nosedive mode, exact same situation as Indy and Charlotte. Playing bad now (losing 3 straight) and has played 8 games at home and just 5 on road.
21. (23) Atlanta Hawks (5-7)
Are the Hawks ever going to field a decent team. I mean they get top 5 draft pick in 4 out of every 5 years. But yet they seem to stink year in year out. 2007, different year, same Hawks.
22. (28) NY Knicks (4-9)
The Knicks are red hot, winners of 2 in a row. That was funny, right? I figured I could tell a joke, since the Knicks are a joke.
23. (26) Portland Trailblazers (5-9)
Not a playoff threat, so not worth talking about really.
24. (24) Miami Heat (3-10)
Have got big game with Boston coming up on the 30th. If they win that one, it shows me they can still be a force in the East.
25. (21) Chicago Bulls (2-10)
Biggest disappointment so far this season. They have the talent to still make the playoffs. Things can only get better.
26. (18) Sacramento Kings (5-9)
Don't like this team anymore, as they show they cant win on road (0-7).
27. (27) Memphis Grizzlies (4-9)
The Western Conference version of the Atlanta Hawks. Constantly get top 5 picks, constantly stink.
28. (20) Philadelphia 76ers (3-9)
Team needs a scorer. Team needs a lot of things.
29. (30) Minnesota Timberwolves (2-10)
Should be quite a battle between them and Seattle to see who has the worst record.
30. (29) Seattle Sonics (2-12)
Lame duck team is very lame to watch.
