Sweet Sixteen - MIDWEST Bracket

2008 NCAA Basketball Betting Odds

My top overall team, Kansas, as well as the most underrated team in the Nation, Wiconsin - will do their best to do away with a possible 10 seed - 12 seed/ Wildcat - Wildcat match-up. Here’s to hoping both fail miserably. Cheers! Sure, I’d love to see Dell Curry’s son light up his path to the Elite Eight, and it would be something else to see the 12 seed Wildcats march past Kansas to meet them their.

MidWest’s Sweet 16 Games

Game 1: No. 10 Davidson vs. No. 3 Wisconsin
Game 2: No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 12 Villanova

What to Look For:

Davidson Wildcats (10) vs. Wisconsin Badgers (3)

Stephen Curry is no joke. Wisconsin’s defense is second to none. Curry has been unstoppable. Wisconsin has been able to stop everyone (allowed 55 and 56 points in back to back games to start the tournament. Who will win out in this one? I have a feeling that little Stephen Curry will once again put on a show. See, good defense doesn’t stop this kid. He’s magic. However, it will surprise me if Davidson can get past Wisconsin. The Badgers are too consistent and despite being ignored almost all season long, the Badgers won both the outright Big 10 Title and the Big 10 Tournament. Don’t look now, but they are good. Sure, they don’t have a Michael Beasily or a Mayo, not even a Lawson or an Ellington, but they do have a great team concept. One that rebounds and works their tail off at every chance they get. Loose balls go their way, and rarely do they make a huge mistake. Davidson has a shooters chance, because they have the confidence to beat any Goliath sent their way. But it gets tougher now, and they will have a big consistent force to deal with. But the Wildcats have the Nation’s longest winning streak, and they’ve fought through all adversity thrown in their 10-seed direction. Who’s to count them out now?

Kansas Jayhawks (1) vs. Villanova Wildcats (12)

Kansas has the strongest starting five in college basketball. Every single one of the kids the Jayhawks trot out there can absolutely win their team a basketball game. So, right it on the board, right? Not so fast. Villanova has a couple guards that don’t take lightly to being stopped, and I imagine they’ll have more than their fair share of show-stopping shots that keep this game close. Scottie Reynolds needs to be out of his mind if the Wildcats want to have a chance to unseat the top seed. Villanova has it in them, that’s for sure, their ability to win big games against top-notch opponents was what got them into the field as one of the last teams in. Scottie can’t do it alone, and you can bet that Kansas will have all eyes on Reynolds as to do their best not to let the little guard get going. The Jayhawks play tough defense, and every shot will be contested on that side of the ball. A bad game is possible from the Jayhawks, they’ve had a couple of those, but at this point in the season, I don’t expect it to happen.

Best Team Left: Kansas

They may lose, sure, anyone may lose, but there is no doubt in my mind that Kansas is the best team of this bunch. In fact, in a game of 1-seeds, I would probably put my money on the Jayhawks. That doesn’t mean they’re a shoe in, that just means that they have the power to match up with the other 1-seeds, because they are never at a disadvantage at any one position. They can beat you any way you choose, so opponents have to be careful what they give Kansas. No go to guy? Ha! The Jayhawks have seven of them.
