College Football Bowl Blitz - Week 3
Top Games of the Week
Hawaii Warriors (12-0) @ Georgia Bulldogs (10-2)
Line: Hawaii (+7.5) @ Georgia (-7.5) O/U 68.5
Time: 1/1/2008 20:30pm EST on FOX
Rundown: We finally get to see what
Colt Brennan can do against a top tier defense in the Georgia Bulldogs - and I’m excited. Colt’s accuracy is second to none, and from what I’ve seen, he can make every throw in the book. He’ll be tested by the Bulldogs, a team that isn’t shy about putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. They also have secondary speed that the Warriors probably haven’t seen before. Hawaii hopes to pull another Boise State over Oklahoma upset extravaganza, but it should be just a
little bit more difficult this year as that game will be fresh in the mind of the Dogs. Georgia will try to show college football fans everywhere why there’s a difference between the small conference programs and the big boys. Georgia finished the season winning six straight, including huge W’s over Florida, Auburn, and Kentucky. They are a darn good football team with a strong running game and a defense that will smack you right in the mouth. But if they think they’re just going to show up and beat little old Hawaii, they’re going to be in trouble. The Rainbow Warriors have speed at receiver that Georgia doesn’t see often. With a spread offense, a great quarterback, and good skill positional speed, the Warriors have a chance against anyone. You know I’m rooting for them. I’m sick of the
National Championship only being for certain teams. Look at it, Hawaii started the season without a chance. Does that seem right?
Kansas Jayhawks (11-1) @ Virginia Tech Hokies (11-2)
Line: Kansas (+3.5) @ Hokies (-3.5) O/U 53
Time: 1/3/2008 20:00pm EST on FOX
Rundown: The Jayhawks offense versus the Hokies defense - this game should be a tight one. Does good defense beat a good offense? Or is it the other way around? We shall see. The Jayhawks haven’t been a pushover defensively this season, but who have they played? Virginia Tech spent most of it’s season in a week
ACC, so can their stellar defensive numbers really be trusted? The Hokies didn’t allow anything all season long, and would have been in the National Championship if it weren’t for an absolute Humpty Dumpty move in the final minutes of their game against Boston College. The Jayhawks couldn’t keep up with Missouri, or it would be them playing for the National Title. Yes, it’s easy to say that these two teams can look back on a season of ifs and buts. But an if turned into a match-up against each other, and a but will almost certainly turn into a very good game. Virginia Tech has been here before while Kansas is in this situation for the first time in a long time. The Jayhawks finished first in the
Big 12 North while the Hokies finished 1st in the ACC. Both teams won 11 games, and both have shown a
passion to win football games at any expense. Kansas’s players show up brighter on the stat sheet (better quarterback, running back, and receiving numbers), while Tech’s team defense has been outstanding all year long, as they come in as the favorite. Will the up and coming Jayhawks make yet another name for themselves? Or will the Hokies do the dirty work to get the win?
