The Mitchell Report, George J. Mitchell’s report on performance-enhancing drugs in baseball was released this afternoon at 2:00pm EST; it covers everything from the adverse affects of Anabolic Steroids and Human Growth Hormone (HGH) to Baseball’s first Drug Policies.
Some of the incidents included in the report are the Cocaine suspensions of the 1983-84 seasons and when former MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent added Steroids to the MLB Drug Policy in 1991. There are numerous names of players mentioned throughout the Mitchell Report.
Some of the players named are Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Miguel Tejada, Eric Gagne and yes Barry Bonds. Here is a list of players mentioned in the report .
Players weren’t the only ones to be scrutinized during this 20 month investigation. Bud Selig, the commissioner since 1992, and Donald Fehr, the executive director of the player’s association since 1986 have both scheduled news conferences in Midtown Manhattan. It will be interesting to hear what these people have to say as there are calls for beefing up testing. Will the commissioner address the use of amphetamines that seemed to be lacking in the Michell Report?
