The New England Patriots are the best team I’ve ever come across. They are like all the Florida Schools in college football collected into one great team. They would probably beat any two NFC teams joined together to make one Super NFC group. If the Patriots were a talk-show host, they would make a run at a combined threesome of Jerry Springer, Oprah Winfrey, and Arsenio Hall. If there’s ever been a Goliath in professional sports, this group is it. You need some numbers? Check these out.
· The Patriots have gained 30 more yards per game than any other team
· N.E. had doubled the 49ers offensive production (432ypg– 213ypg)
· The Patriots have more Passing ypg than 6 teams have total yards
· The Patriots points per game have doubled 10 other NFL teams
· Tom Brady has more passing TDs than any other team has total TDs
· The Patriots have doubled 19 teams in total points
· If Tom Brady throws no TDs this week, he still has more TD’s through 8 games than anybody in NFL history
· Tom Brady hasn’t thrown less than 3 touchdowns in any game this season
· If the Patriots continue scoring at will, their 39.9 points per game will destroy the former record held by the 2000 St. Louis Rams of 33.8 ppg
· With all that offensive firepower, the Patriots are still in the Top 10 in all the following defensive categories: points per game (10th), yards per game (4th), passing yards per game (4th), rushing yards per game (10th), 3rd Down percentage (1st), and total defense (4th)
· The Patriots haven’t scored less than 34 points this season
· Gambling: 7-0 SU, 7-0 ATS, 6-1 O/U
There are so many game-breaking talents on this team, opposing defenses don’t know what to do. Donte Stallworth has been the 4th receiving option all season long for Tom Brady, a player with enough speed and explosive ability to turn any short catch into a touchdown. It’s as if these receivers are trying to one up each other, playing there own game, and completely ignoring their opposition. And watching their games, I completely understand that approach, because they seem to be the only team good enough to beat themselves.
And the Patriots haven’t even gotten their best running back going, yet. Laurence Maroney (one of the premier young running back talents in the league) has been injured for most of the season. With a running game to complement Tom Brady and his dynamic group of pass catchers, this team will be able to do anything they want.
One thing’s for sure, I’ll be rooting for them. That’s right, a life long Patriot hater such as myself will be in the front row cheering for Tom Brady to lace another 60 yard pass down the middle of the field to one of the best receivers the game has ever seen. Why? Because things like this only happen once in a lifetime. And when you get the chance to see greatness, you should embrace it.
Many say that Bill Belichick will rest his guys, and a late season loss is imminent even if the Patriots make it deep into the season undefeated. I don’t buy it. People say that the Super Bowl is the only thing these Patriots are thinking about. I don’t buy it. You know why? Because every single season since the Super Bowl came about, there has been one Super Bowl Champion. And only once in the history of the NFL has there been an undefeated team. I don’t know what Bill will do with his club, but I know what I’d do, I’d go for it all. This group of Patriots has a chance.
