BCS is a bunch of BS
Is anyone as excited as me for the New Mexico Bowl? Can you believe New Mexico is playing in it? I don't remember a New Mexico Bowl as a kid, so why do they have one now? Its just a sad attempt at trying to get people to come see that
meaningless game. That's exactly what every bowl outside of the Sugar Bowl matchup between Ohio State and LSU is:
Meaningless.
There is no reason that Division I college football shouldn't have a playoff system intact. Lets start with a three week, 8 team playoff. Heck, you can still have bowl games for those teams not so fortunate to make the playoff. That way pretty much everyone is happy.
Now lets get to how the playoff births would be determined. Give each of the major conferences (ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10, and SEC) a birth. Then you would have two at large births. This way,
EVERYONE has a chance. Boise State would have been in last year, and Hawaii would be in this year.
Why do so many people
love March Madness and college hoops? Because Cinderella has a chance. You don’t have to be rich to get an invite to the dance. People love to see the
underdog team from nowhere emerge. With the current way college football is operating, we never get to see the David vs Goliath story develop. Sure, we saw an incredible game in Boise St/Oklahoma last year, but just imagine if that was a playoff game? Remember Villanova 25 years ago shocking Georgetown and the entire world in college hoops? Now that is what I want and expect to see in college football.
